Banana Loca is the fun and quirky kitchen gadget you never knew you needed. It cores bananas and fills them with delicious treats like Nutella, peanut butter, or anything else your sweet tooth desires. The idea may sound unusual, but it’s exactly what helped turn an ordinary fruit into a surprisingly successful business.
When the founders appeared on Shark Tank, they pitched their product seeking $250,000 in exchange for 25% equity. At the time, they’d generated $134,000 in sales over five months. Each unit cost $6 to produce and sold for $26.99. Impressed by the numbers and potential, Mark Cuban and Kevin O’Leary teamed up to offer a deal: $250,000 for 25% ownership, plus a $3 royalty per unit until their investment was recouped. The founders accepted and things quickly took off.
After the episode aired, they finalized the deal and immediately sold more than 11,000 units. By July 2024, Banana Loca was nearing $10 million in lifetime sales. Now priced at $28.99 (or two for $55), the product is available on Amazon and the company’s website—proof that even a banana can lead to big business.
